Four months ago, Americans commemorated the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. And yesterday, Americans practiced their freedom of choice to elect candidates to the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, governorships, and other offices.
On morning after the election, our nation remains divided over whether the outcome of the 2026 midterm election reflects a nation that still values the principles that inspired our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. How would our Founding Fathers have voted in Midterms 2026?
Although many of us are disappointed if not anxious, even fearful from the
outcome of the midterm election, I was reminded that each of us who personally
know, love, and seek to follow God according to His Word must remember a far
greater "election"-- our election by Almighty God to become His
children, "chosen before the creation of the world" ( Ephesians 1:
4).
Mankind does not "elect" God. God elects whomever He chooses. This truth applies to both His personal calling for salvation, and for His sovereign rule over the seating of kings and "elected officials." Therefore, we can entrust the outcome of the midterm election into God's hands.
It is beyond me to fully understand God's Election. My place is to "love Him back" through the power of His Spirit that works within me (Ephesians 3: 20), and show it by loving others as Christ loves me.
Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble...
-- 2 Peter 1: 10
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. -- Colossians 3: 12-17
Our American election cycles come and go, and the power held by our elected officials waxes and wanes, but the Word of God endures forever (Isaiah 40: 8). Let us put our trust in our sovereign God who wills to do for His good pleasure and needs no election to retain His power, a power that rules with love and grace to all who yield to His calling.
